ITALY AND GREECE.
SECRET AGREEMENT ALLEGED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Paris, December 4. The Matin, continuing the publication of M. Venizelos’ documents, reveals letters from Signor Nitti and Count Sforza addressed to the Greek Government leaving no doubt of Italy’s refusal of support to M. Venizelos. The Matin says- that M. Venizelos signed a secret agreement with Signor Tittoni in Paris in July, 1919, under which Italy was pledged to support the Greek demands in Western and Eastern Thrace, the annexation of Northern Epirus, also the cession to Greece of the Aegean Islands. The agreement provided that, in the event of Italy’s inability to obtain satisfaction regarding her aspirations in Asia Minor, which were not specified, the agreement might be annulled.
The Matin expresses the opinion that the agreement thus became precarious and illusory. M. Venizelos was trifled with by the Italians. Count Sforza, writing to M. Venizelos in July, 1920, denounced the agreement and declared that Italy was resuming full liberty of action.
