ANCIENT EGYPT.

TREASURE TROVE SAFEGUARDED. By Telegraph.—Press As'in.—Copyrifht. London, Dec. 5. The Times Luxor correspondent states that the most elaiborate precautions are being taken in temporarily blocking the passages to the tomb to guard against brigands and robbers, who abound in the region. The entrance has been reclosed with timber, masonry and rubble and armed guards have been stationed outside. Mr. Carter is going to Cairo to superintend the forging of iron doors for the doorways. Immediately the chamber is re-opened, which is expected to take place on December 16, the photography and recording of the objects will commence. Many of the more fragile objects will requite chemical treatment, the materials for which must be obtained from (Europe. When the articles have been packed and securely sealed, the Antiquities Department will send a special steamer to convey them to the Cairo Museum. An interesting fact is that the last excavation in this area ended two years ago, within two metres of the secret opening to the staircase leading to the passage to the chamber, the existence of which was not suspected.
