ELECTION TO-DAY.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR VOTING. HOURS OF POLLING. Complete arrangements to enable electors to record their votes to-day on both the political and licensing issues, and for the .speedy counting and recording of the votes have been made by the registrar of electors for the Taranaki electorate (Mr. J. M. Adam), and, once counting has been commenced, the results should speedily become known.
While the majority of the electors will have taken steps to see that their names are on the roll, or, in the case of visitors, have taken the precaution to obtain absentee voters’ permits, further concessions are available for votiug by declaration should the voter come in within any of the. following categories: (1) If the elector’s name is struck out in red on the booth roll and the elector is fltill qualified to vote in the district; (2) if the elector voted as a registered elector at the last Parliamentary election for the district in which his place of residence is situated and the name does not appear on the roll of that district; (3) if the elector has received word from the registrar that his or her name has been placed on the roll, and that on reaching the booth this is not found to be so. The elector should in this case produce the registrar’s acknowledgment card if possible. The penalty for a false declaration is £5O.
The hours of polling in New Plymouth and the country districts are from '9 a.m. to 0 p.m. In the larger centres the hours are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
