FORMER RESULTS. On April 10, 1919, a special licensing poll was held under the authority of the Licensing Amendment Act, 1918. Only two issues were placed before the electors, who yoted thus: — For national continuance .... 264,189 For national prohibition with compensation 253,827 Majority for continuance 10,362 Under the provision of the same Act another poll was taken simultaneously with the general election on December 17. 1919. when three issues were submitted. The final figures were: ! Foy national continuance 241.251 For State purchase and control 32.261 For national prohibition 270.250 Majority against prohibition .. 3,262 Tn the Taranaki electorate the figures were: For continuance 2780. for State control 320, for prohibition 4407.
