WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY.

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Whangamomona County Council held its special meeting on November 27 in the Council Chambers, Whangamomona. Present: Councillors N. R. Cleland (chairman), Kennedy (Tahora), Coxhead, McCutcheon (Central), MeCluggage (Pohokura), Jones, Kemp and Callaghan (Strathmore). Tlie business was the consideration of a motion, notice of which was given by Councillor McCluggage, to rescind resolution declaring main, roads in the county. Moved by Councillor McCluggage, seconded by Councillor Kennedy "That tlie resolution declaring certain roads in the county main roads be rescinded.” Ayes: Councillors Cleland, Kemp, Kennedy, McCluggage. Noes: Councillors Callaghan, Coxhead, Jones and McCutcheon. The chairman gave his casting vote against the motion, which was declared lost. The ordinary meeting followed. Councillor Coxhead was given permission to retire. Correspondence was received as follows: — From R. Masters, M.P., forwarding reply from Minister of Agriculture re development of hilly country in Taranaki. From Public Works Deiiartment. Stratford, re maintenance of Whangamomona Saddle, Ohura Road, stating that the department had decided to adhere to its decision to discontinue the | grant for that purpose. • From the, resident engineer. Public "Works ' Department, Taumarunui, a letter regarding the erection of a bridge over tjie Ohura River as a means of access to Lacey and Russel,

asking the council to make a contribution towards the pro|>osed structure. —Resolved that the chairman and Councillor Kennedy visit the suggested site for the proposed bridge, and that they be given full power to act in regard to same. From Commissioner of Crown Lands, New Plymouth, forwarding schedule of “thirds ’ accrued to September 30. 1922, and requesting the council to submit proposals for the expenditure of the amount.—Resolved that proposals for the expenditure of accrued thirds on the .maintenance of the roads of access to tlie properties,, from which tlie amounts have accrued, be furnished to tlie Commissioner of Crown Lands. . Foreman Telfar submitted a lengthy report dealing with the work and it was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the clerk. Councillor Kennedy reported authorising work on the Raekohua Road.—Action confirmed. Chairman reported application from Mr. G. Barton, Kchuratahi, for gravel from Kohuratahl pit.—Granted with condition that foreman supervise. Tenders for the ’unloading and stacking of metal in Whangamomona railway yard wore declined, tlie. matter of satisfactory arrangements being left to tlie clerk and foreman. The finance committee recommended that accounts as per schedule, totalling £746 13s sd, being £263 2s on tlie Whangamomona Road loan, No. 2 account, and £4BB Ils 5d on the county fund account be passed for payment.
