WEDDING.

OAKES—ARNOLD. The first evening wedding in Hawera was celebrated at the residence of Mr. and Airs. T. C. Arnold, Tawhiti Road, Hawera. on Monday last at 7 when Miss Ethel Jessie Arnold and Mr. Charles Clicord Oakes were united m matrimony. The Rev. J. Fordyce, Methodist Minister of Manaia, officiated, and the service was attended by about 30 relatives and friends of the happy couple. After the ceremony the party adjourned to a marquee, where the usual toasts were honoured. Ins Rev. M. Fordyce, in proposing the toast, ‘■The Bride and Bridegroom,” expressed the good wishes of all to the young people. The bridegroom replied suitably, and proposed the toast “The Maid oHonour.” Miss Evelyn Periea abl y acted in this capacity, and Mr. B. Oakes (as best man) fittingly replied on her behalf, and called for the toast. IM Bride and Bridegroom’s Parents, to which a suitable reply was made by Mr. T. C. Arnold (father of the bride) and Mr. B. Oakes, on behalf of his parents whose absence was unavoilable. bride was prettily attired in silver grey triolene, and wore a white picture hat and carried a fine bouquet of white roses, sweet peas and maiden-hair tern. Tlie maid of honor wore a dress of white silk and a white picture hat. and her bouquet, was composed of pale P' n “- sweet peas, blue cornflower, and maiden-hair fern. This is e youngest daughter of Mr. an Mrs. T. C. Arnold, and was given away by her father. Mr. C. Oakes is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. B. Oakes of New Plymouth, and was supported by his brother as best man. Amongst others who expressed good wishes to the voung people were Adjutant Wheeler and Captain Freyberg, Mr. Yearbury, senr., and Mr. and Mrs. Marra. A social evening, enjoyed by all, cone a happy wedding celebration.
