An Oamaru telegram says Captain Herbert Sydney Cox has been appointed harbormaster in succession to Captain Ramsay, who has retired after 26 years’ service.
An Adelaide cablegram reports the arrival of the new Governor-General, Sir George Bridges and his family. They were heartily welcomed. The many friends of Mr. C. Revell, custodian of Pukekura Park, will regret to learn that he is a patient at the hospital -suffering from a severe attack of pneumonia. Word has been received from Sir R. Heaton Rhodes that owing to preaaure of business he will be unable to visit the New Plymouth Boys High School as hoped to present the Jellicoe Shield and the prizes at the annual breakingup ceremony. The death took place at New Plymouth on Monday of a well-known settler in the person of Mr. James Beedie, formerly of Ngaere, at the age of 67 years. The deceased, who was a native of Aberdeen, was for a number of years engaged in blacksmithing at Ngaere, and then took up farming there, until his retirement to New Plymouth a few years ago. The late Mr. Beedie, who was known for his quiet consistent character, enjoyed the friendship of a large circle of friends. His wife predeceased him some years ago. She had for some time been living with his daughter-in-law, Mrs. James Beedie, and is by his three daughters—-Mrs. Harry Sparkes, Mrs. Harry Penningtdn (both of Ngaere). and ‘.Mrs. Joseph Thomas (Pukekohe).
