GREEK EXECUTIONS.
ATTITUDE OF ITALY. EFFORTS TO AVERT TRAGEDY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 3, 5.5 p.m. ♦ Rome, Dec. 1. Signor Mussolini states the Italian Minister in Athens did everything possible to avert the execution of the ex-Ministers. He approached M. Politis on November 4. France acted otherwise and this divergent action provoked the tragic end of the trial. Signor Mussolini has ordered the Italian representative not to recognise the new Government and reserves the right of recalling him according to circumstances. FATE OF PRINCE ANDREW. Received Dec. 4, 12.5 a.m. Athens, Dec. 3. Prince Andrew was condemned to permanent expulsion from Greece, with loss of all military rank. The evidence of the prosecution showed that Prince Andrew disobeyed General Papoulas’ orders on the battlefield. Prince Andrew contended the orders, if carried out, would have resulted in the irreparable loss of an entire army corps. FRANCE JOINS PROTESTS. Received Dee. 3, 11.5 p.m. Paris, Dec. x. The Government is associating itself with the British and Italian protests against the Greek executions, and is making every effort to prevent further bloodshed. PRINCE ANDREW FOR TRIAL. Athens, Dec. 1. A special court-martial will try Prince Andrew on Monday. When the King heard this? decision he offered to abdicate. Rome, Dec. 1. The widows and children of General Stratos and. General Hadjianestis were offered a welcome here. A funeral service for the deceased ‘is being arranged in Rome. King Constantine will attend. London, Dec. 1. Advices from Rome state that Signor Mussolini informed the Cabinet that he ■would protect to Athens against the wholesale executions on purely humanitarian grounds. Lausanne, Dec. 1. Lord Curzon, interviewed, said the events at Athens would not affect Britain’s relations with M. Venizelos. The executions did not concern the Lausanne Conference.
