STIR AMONG METHODISTS.

REV. H. ELLIOTT AND AN M.P. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Laat Night. Much indignation hag been cauied in local Methodist circles by the discovery that a special correspondent has telegraphed that trouble has been caused *n the Methodist Church as a result of a controversy between the Rev. Howard Elliott and Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P. A straight-out denial is given to the report. The facts are that Mr. Elliott, at a public meeting, urged the P.P.A. not to vote for any man whose past actiona or future pledges did not stamp him as a protector of Protestantism. Next night Mr. Veitch made certain charges againat Mr. Elliott, who threatened proceedings for slander. Mr. Veitch then published in the local papers an apology to Mr. Elliott, saying his charges were without foundation. After Mr. Veitch’s charges half a dozen Methodists privately proposed to ask the church leaders to withdraw an invitation to Mr. Veitch to speak at the opening of the Synod. The proposal, however, was dropped, and there is absolutely no ground for the special correspondent’s messages.
