“THE MESSIAH.”

TO-NIGHT’S PERFORMANCE. The choral festival which is to take place in the Coronation Hall to-night, when Handel’s popular oratorio ‘The Messiah” will be given by the choirs of four choral societies, will be an occasion of unprecedented importance and interest in this province. It will be the culminating point in a tour being made by the Royal Wellington Choral Union, in which they are combining with local organisations in Hawera, Stratford and New Plymouth in the production of this oratorio. The combined choirs were given a remarkable reception at Stratford last night, numbers being able to gain admission to the Town Hall. The choirs’ interpretation of Handel’s greatest work was a musical treat that seldom comes the way of Taranaki audiences.
