POLITICAL.
How political history repeats itself! At the present time certain political candidates arc bewailing Mr. Masaev’s majority, pointing out how dangerous it is for a Government to have too large a majority. That is exactly the argument that the Conservatives of the day used against Mr. Seddon in his palmy days when what, his opponents termed a “brutal majority” used to follow him into the lobby. in those days it was the Conservatives who argued in that manner, in these days it m the Liberals. Verily history does indeed repeat itself.—Eltham Argus. MR. WILFORD’S SEAT. “Mr. Wilford said w-hon he was in Auckland that, he had a safe seat.” said Mr. H. D. Bennett, at Day’s Bay. A Voice: That was incorrect. 1 Mr. Bennett: Well, I admit that when he returned here, and was told some things by his friends and followers, he said that he had been misreported. Why did he not take the opportunity of correcting the misreport when he was in Auckland? He waited until he was here, and found that the Reform candidate had made so much ground in this electorate—(loud applause)—before he deemed it necessary to make that correction.
