BACKBLOCKS MISSION.
AIDING TRUST FUNDS. The Anglican backblocks mission purport holding a Home mission day in Urenui in February next. The proceeds of the day are to be devoted to the I Brown-Govett fund for assisting Home I missions. The back settler has a good many deI privations to face, one of the chief being the almost utter lack of religious teaching for himself or family. The huge •mission district, stretching from Awakino down the coast to Waitara and inland along the Mokau, Tongaporutu and Waitara rivers, has only two missionaries, and these two are in consequence greatly overworked and frequently break down. Additional help is sorely needed. f „ The settlers, in organising the “day, are hoping for the sympathetic assistance of their town brethren. The sewing necessary for the plain and fancy drees stalls is the greatest handicap, as it is quite impossible to manage either the labor or the material. Garments suitable for schoolgirls of all ages, especially the larger sizes.’are to be reasonably priced, books, crockery, anything and everything saleable that the farmer cannot make or produce himself, are required. Mrs. Pigott, “Sunny Brae,” Urenui, the president of the local committee, will take charge of an? parcels sent to her, and Mr. Smith, the proprietor of the daily ’bus from New Plymouth to Urenui. will convey the goods. Archdeacon Evans. “Tirohanga.” New Plymouth, or the honorary general secretary, Mrs. H. Larsen, “Woodlands, Pehu, will very gladly give additional information or receive donations.
