SEAMEN STAND FIRM. NOT RETURNING TO WORK. STATEMENT BY LEADER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Young, secretary of the Seamen’s Union, to-day cam? out of the reticent attitude* he has observed all along, so far as to strongly deny the suggestion that the seamen are withdrawing from the position they have taken up. The members were just as solid, he asserted, as the day they came out, and there was not the slightest sign of a breakaway. MEN TO BE PROSECUTED. ACTION IN AUCKLAND. Auckland. Last Night. About fifty seamen are to be prosecuted by the Labor Department at Auckland in connection with the shipping trouble. .It is understood they will be charged with taking part in an unlawful strike. The Union Company has announced it has decided to dispatch the Mnkura on Friday next by means of volunteer labor. Unionists are indignant at the pro(posal, and have called a special meeting of the unions concerned to decide what action will be taken. A general upheaval is predicted. The crew of the Kanna has been paid off. Sydney, November 29. The cargo steamer Kanna set down to sail last night lias been held up owing to the boycott. There are now 12 Union Company vessels idle in Australian waters, aggregating 40,000 tons. Heavy bookings are reported by tne Ulimaroa. It is stated that premiums i have been offered privately for berths lon the vessel. At a mas. 3 meeting of seamen the Communist faction prevented the boycott being lifted. A resolution was passed reiterating the demand for the unconditional release of the Long Bay prisoners. It. was decided to forgo the demands in the event of the settlement of the New Zealand trouble.
