Mr. Stanley Shaw was recommended for appointment to the Taranaki Church of England Trust Board by the Archdeaconry Board yesterday, in succession to the late Mr. S. Percy Smith.
Judge Jones, Chief Justice of the Native Land Court, and secretary to the Department of Native Allaire, arrived in New Plymouth last evening and is staying at'the Criterion Hotel. He is engaged on official business and leaves again on Saturday. The death of Very Rev. Dean Hyland, for twentv-five years in charge of the Roman Catholic 'parish of Rangiora, is announced in a Christchurch message. He was a native of Tipperary, Ireland, and was stationed for a time or the West Coast and Ashburton. He assisted in opening a bazaar on Tuesday and was found dead in bed this morning. He had an attack of angina pectoris a week ago. He was 55 years of age.
The death occurred at Auckland recently of Mr. James Shiner Bond, at his residence, Victoria Avenue, Remuera, in his 64th year. Mr. Bond was well known in public affairs, both in the Waikato and in Auckland, and was. for long connected with journalism in Marton, Cambridge and Hamilton. Mr. Bond served on many public bodies during his life. He was one of the first members of the Cambridge Borough Council, and was Mayor for three successive terras, serving in a similar capacity for three years at Hamilton. He was also formerly chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board, and a member of the Hamilton High School Board. At the time of his death, Mr. Bond was a member of the Auckland Harbor Board and of the Auckland Education Board.
The death took place suddenly from heart failure on Tlnirsday night of Sister Ada Florence Kilgour, who for many years had been connected with the Palmerston North Hospital, and latterly matron of the Old People’s Home at Awapuni. The late Sister Kilgour had been connected with the nursing profession since her younger days. Recently there was unveiled in All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, a memorial tablet to the nurses of New Zealand who died on service during the Great War. Much of the credit for the establishment of this tribute was due to the late Sister Kilgour.
