LEFT ON THE LAWN.
STORY OF ABANDONED CHILD. By Telegraph -Press Association. Christchurch, Nov. 28. At the Supreme Court, s Kathleen Mary Morgan, aged twenty, appeared on a charge of having abandoned her child. Counsel for accused said ths child was born at Timaru aid the mother, failing to get the child into a home in Christchurch, became destitute and placed it on the lawn at a residence. where the infant’s life was not endangered. The man concerned had since married accused. Mr. Justice Adams said that, as she had married and taken the child bock with the prospect of a happy home, he would refrain from recording a conviction, but did so only because he was satisfied she abandoned, the child only under the pressure of extreme destitution. Mr. C. W. Hervey, accountant and | secretary, and member of the City ’ Council, was charged on the information of the Commissioner of Taxes with having made false returns of income in respect to 1920 and 1921. An adjournment sine die was granted.
