The character of the contest with Lewis is not explained, but it is believed it would attract sporting interest, since the recent j controversy arose as to which is the better means of defence —boxing or wrestling. Kearns has indicated that the match with Lewis would take place within three months. MATCH AT AUCKLAND. Auckland, Last Night. A professional light-weight boxing contest of 15 rounds for a purse of £175, between H. May (Auckland) and P. Demsky (Queensland) was won on points by May after a good contest THE COMING CONTEST. WHAT BILLY CRAWFORD SAYS. In conversation with our reporter, Billy Crawford, trainer of Cyril Whitaker, remarked: “They say this fellow Gleeson is a knock-out artist. Well, he doesn’t scare Whit aker any. Johnny £eeney could hit hard enough to*%nock Cadman quick. Did he hurt Whitaker? Albert Pooley has knocked a few men in his tlune, still he never looked like stopping Cyril. Any man can hit hard enough to knock another out if the other fellow stops there to let him. I know Gleeson Is a good man, and has experience and the wallop in his favor, but don’t forget that Whitaker is a pretty fast fellow, probably the fastest In tho Dominion, and also has youth on his side. I know that this will be a pretty tough fight, but I think we will law the bacon, and it is quite on the cards that the one who takes the count will hall from sunny New South Wales.”
