KAWAROA PARK SOCIETY.
THE ANNEAL .MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. . The tenth annual meeting of the Kawaroa Park Society was held in the park .pavilion last night, when the president (Air. V. H. Beal) presided over a good attendance of members, about half of whom were ladles. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet (already published), Air. Beal said he was sorry that there were so few of the general public present, which, however, might ’be taken as evidence of the .fact that they were quite satisfied with the way the society was carrying on its work. He thought that they would all agree that . the society had had a most successful year. It had been a fairly heavy one on the society and the committee, and he again extended his thanks for the assistance which had been given him as president. He also paid a tribute to the assistance given by Mr. J. Brown, as the Borough Council’s representative on the committee. They had some big schemes in view for the coming season and he hoped that Mr. Brown would still be the council’s representative. In the caretaker (Air. S. Coad) the society had a man who took a keen interest in the park and its present condition was due, in a great measure, to him, while he had also been very attentive to the welfare of visitors at any of the park functions. In Mr. Coad the society had ’ an asset. (Applause.) Mr. Beal also thanked the Press for their interest in , the park, and mentioned that if the so- ! ciety were scocessful in accomplishing this- year the work they had in view they would then have a park worthy of New Plymouth- He then moved the adoption of the report and sheet. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. Brown, ‘who expressed thanks for the remarks which had been made concerning the assistance he had given. He had always taken an interest in the park and he would continue to do so in the future. Not many people knew how much the council was called on jo pay in subsidies to the various societies, but it amounted to a total of about £3600, and if the societies asked for greater subsidies, he was afraid they would have to go to the ratepayers for more rates. Regarding the schemes the committee had in mind, he would be only too pleased to give them any assistance he could. (Applause.) The motion was carried unanimously.
