THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. •By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Presbyterian General Assembly, on the presentation of the Social Association Committee’s report, decided that a two vears’ training scheme be instituted in each orphanage, with the object of ft ting women workers in these institutions to discharge their duties in the cere of children more efficiently. P™.™ 10 " w f * proposed for the granting of diplomas to successful candidates. The status of Minister Emeritus was granted to the Revs. B. Mutson (Mono), J I. Burrows (Hamilton), A. Doull (Wa nganui), A. Morton (Clutha), and A. Grant (Waipawa), with seats m the respeetiv presbyteries as associate members, and to the Rev. A. Don (Dunedin) and Dr R. Ewin (Christchurch), with full membership of the courts of the church. The Assembly received a petition from Dunedin presbyteries asking the Assembly to take steps to have a simple statemer. of the doctrine and policy of the church prepared. The Rev. W. Gow (Dunedin) said there was a widespread feeling in the church that a statement was needed. Die majority of cburchpeople were ignorant ol the standards of the church and would welcome a statement setting forth the essentials. The matter was referred to the presbyteries for an expression of opinion.
