PERSONAL.
Mr. C. Baker, of Elthann is taking up his residence in New Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Brent, of Siam, are paying a visit to Eltham. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Nathan, of Auckland, are spending a few days in New Plymouth. Mr. Ron. Paul, who has been seriously ill, is now out of hospital, and progressing favorably. The Prime Minister (Mr. W. F. Massey) will be at Hawera on Saturday, and will deliver an address. Colonel J. Pow, general secretary of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association for the past three years, has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, succeeding Mr. E. C. Jack, who has resigned. A Sydney message states that Mr. C. E. Weigell’ of the Government Law Department, has been appointed Solici-tor-General. The post has been vacant since the formation of the present Government. The appointment carries no ministerial salary.
Mr. P. E. Garvey, who is well known throughout Taranaki, where he has been head stock buyer for the Taranaki farmers’ meat works since the inception of the company, has received the appointment of North Taranaki buyer for Simms, Cooper, Ltd. He will continue to reside in Stratford.
