CHARGE OF BRIBERY.
CHINA’S FINANCE MINISTER. By Telegraph.— Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 20, 8.30 p.m. New York, Nov. 19. The Pekin correspondent of the Chicago Tribune states new trouble in China seems to be impending. President Liyuan ordered the removal of Cabinet, following the arrest of the Finance Minister (Mr. Lowenkan) on. a bribery charge. Mr. Lowenkan was refused bail, which was offered by the Premier (Mr. Wang), and remains in gaol. The city is under virtual martial law. Mr. Lowenkan is accused of accepting £BO,OOO in connection with an effort to revive a loan of £6,000,000 made before the war through German capitalists. China had received £1,000,000 up to the time ehe entered the war. Interested parties desiring to continue the loan offered Mr. Lowenkan the bribe in the form of a cheque, which passed through the Bank of India and Australia—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
