CRICKET.
SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. At Hawera on Saturday two matches were played between teams representing the town and country. Country A made 107 (Maunsell not out 50, H. Hughes 24) against Town A 149 (Jarvis 25, Pratt 14, Harding and Cunningham 11 each). For Country Balrstow took five wicikets for 39, and Penny four for 36; and for Town, Cole three for 4 and Smith two for 15 were the most successful bowlers. Town B knocked up 109 (R. Davies 27, Richmond 21, and Plank 19), and lost two wickets for 74 In a second innings. J. Davies was not out with 33 and Beeby ior 28. Country B scored but 41 in their first innings. McMahon contributing 23 an<J Whalen 12. In their second essay, however, they scored 148 for the loss of eight wickets (Whalen 56, McKjty "6, Nicholls not out 17, and Thomas not out 17). For Town B the best bowling averages were secured by Machin, six for 12. Hale three for 10; whilst for. Country B McMahon captured four wickets for Ifi, and H. Whalen three for 6.
