DOMINION INDUSTRY.
EXHIBITION AT CHRISTCHURCH. A COMPREHENSIVE DISPLAY. By Telegraph.—Press Assocfiitlon. Christchurdh, Last Night. To secure the support of the general public for goods produced in their own country is the main object of the promoters of the 1922 Industrial Exhibition, which was officially opened in King Edward barracks td-day. The exhibition iteelf is an unprecedented event m the history of New Zealand industry. It is by far the largest exhibition of its kind ever held in the Dominion and its success is assured, not only fcy the great number of exhibits which have been sent in but also by the great interest created in other centres. Cities and towns from Auckland ta the Bluff have their own particular exhibits, and besides these various industries of all feorts and classes are exceptionally well represented. Manufacturers, producers of raw materials, and a hundred and one industrial concerns throughout the land have contributed to the general quota, which covers a truly bewildering range. There are approximately from 250 to 300 exhibitors and. all have gone to much trouble in the arrangement of their particular stands. .Hundreds of stalls line the avenue, and on each of these, tastefully arranged, are samples of the results of the Dominion’s progressiveness. They are of bewildering profusion. King Edward barracks not being large enough there has been built in Cashel Street an annexe thereto, one-tenth of a mile long and of a breadth sufficient to meet the heavy demand upon space. The two buildings have a total floor space of twenty thousand square feet. The exhibition was opened by Lady Jellicoe, who read a telegram from tha Governor-General conveying the warmest good wishes for the success of tha exhibition. Mr. Massey telegraphed expressing the hope that the object the industrialists of New Zealand had in view would be successful from educative and financial standpoints. The Hon. E. P. Lee, speaking on behalf of the Government, said the progress of industries in New Zealand had been great. He had visited industries in the main centres and had (been astonished at what was being produced. There now was concentrated organisation on behalf of the industries as a whole. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes also spoke. The exhibition will remain open till the end of. the year.
