The children’s fancy dress ball at the Parish Hall last night, conducted under the auspices of the A.S.A. committee, drew a ready response from the young people. The costumes were varied and interesting, and these, combined with the decorations and lighting effects, made the interior of the hall a beautiful scene. The first prize for girls was won by Miss Margaret Phillips as ‘'Rainbow,’' the second by Miss Zoe Grubb as ‘■Cupid;” and the third by Miss Veronica Sheahan as “Fuscliia.” Miss Jean Dempsey, as “Pierrette,” was awarded a special prize. Andy Milne, as “Black Cat,” secured the first prize for boys;
•‘Buzz" Whittle, as “’Pierrot,’* the second, and little Ron Lojrry, as “Pierrot,” was awarded a special prize. Later in the evening the adults indulged in a very enjoyable dance. The success of the juvenile ball has encouraged the Mardi Gras organiser to make arrangements for another similar function on the night following the official Mardi Gras ball. The 8.8. concert and dance at Mangatoki last night proved a great success, this popular troupe of entertainers having gained a wide reputation. The dances given by little Miss Myra Wilson were received with enthusiasm, and the other items were all of a pleasing nature.
