A BANKRUPT DROVER.
CREDITORS NOT INTERESTED. A meeting of the creditors of Jolm Emerson, drover, of Eltham (a statement of whose affairs appeared in yesterdav’s" issue) was called at the office of the D,O.A. (Mr. J. S. 8. Medley)' yesterday, but lapsed for want quorum, neither of the two creditors being present. Examined under oath, bankrupt stated that he had been a drover for the past three years, during which time he had boarded at the Waverley Hotel. He had paid £2 per week fnr his keep until last year. Prior to that ho had been doing fairly well, making about £5 per week. He was a widower, and all his children were grown up. He had ‘been out of employment during the past year and could not pay his board, the account for which, and fifteen guineas owing to Messrs. O’Dea and Bayley, solicitors, being his only debts. His assets were his horse and two dogs but he was now working as an ordinary farm hand at £'2 5s per week. He could not make any offer to his creditors at the present time but would pay them when he was able. His bankruptcy was due solely to having been out of work.. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
