AUTOMATIC CONTROL DEVICE. NEW BOMBING METHODS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 15, 11.45 p.m. Washington, Nov. 14. The army air service has announced the perfection of an automatic airplane control. The device is said to be more accurate and more dependable than a human pilot. It consists principally of a gyroscope and bellows. An airplane thus equipped successiuilv made several ninety-mile flights and take-offs. The device can be mounted on any type of machine and in any bumpy weather will hold the ’plane steadier than a man, and carries absolutely a true course despite fog and adverse weather. It maintains any predetermined height, and it is able to ascend to an unusual height. It makes possible new methods of bombing in war.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
