Rev. O. Blundell, of New Plymouth, leaves this morning for Auckland to attend the sheetings of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian church.
A Press message from Auckland last night reported the death of Monsignor Golden, who was ordained priest in 1871. At various times he was stationed in the Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin Roman -Catholic dioceses. Mr. P. Hally (conciliation commissioner) was in New Plymouth yesterday in connection with the Taranaki freezing workers’ dispute. He will leave by the mail train this morning en route to Auckland, where he will hear the dispute of the local fishing industry.
<Mr. A. N. Barraud died at Palmerston North on Monday night. He was the only son of the late Mr. Noel Barraud (of the Well-known firm, Barraud and Abraham) and married Miss Marjqrie Abraham (sister to Mr. H. E. Abraham, of Stratford), who is left with three young sons, the eldest being ten years old. The late Mr. Barraud was educated at Wellington College and later at the famous Bedford Grammar School in England, and on returning to New Zealand entered his father’s firm, where he remained until he took the managership for Palmerston North of Messrs. Booth, MacDonald’s business. He waa an excellent tennie player and a noted batsman, playing iri all Manawatu’s representative cricket matches. He was several times champion of the Manawatu Golf Club, of winch he was president. He was only thirty-seven years of age and apparently in robust health, but caught a severe chill through getting wet while out motoring and succumbed to pneumonia after a short illness. Mrs. Rochefort, of Te Kuiti, is deceased’s only sister.
