SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MATCH s r e r AN EXCITING FINISH. t f '■ VICTORY FOR HOME TEAM. 1 8 By Telegraph.—Pr?R» Assn.—Copyright i Received Nov. 13, 9.20 p.m. i p Adelaide. Nov. 13. I The match between A. ('. MacLaren’s k , English team and South Australia was x continued to-day. when the weather p was bright and hot and the wicket excellent. There was a small attendance. Opening the match on Friday, South Australia made 442, and when stumps were drawn the visitors had 7 on foi no wickets. On Saturday the English men continued and compiled 205. Being 237 England followed on, and n when stumps were drawn had made I for the loss of one wicket. e When play was resumed to-day, Wile son (18 not out) and Titchmarsh (9 not e out) opened merrily, 26 resulting in two e overs from Williams. A. Richardson kept the batsmen thinking, and finally 0 bowled Titchmarsh with a beauty. Hills wood began carefully, and Wilson j slowed down, as if playing for a draw. e as he was nothing like so free as in the e first innings. Both batsmen were content to keep out Richardson, who at the luncheon adjournment had the following figures: Eight overs, three maidens, ten runs, one wicket. The score was then 134. which had taken the same number of minutes to compile. t The defensive game was continued on . resuming, hut Townsend created a . diversion by getting Hillwood leg be- ? fore. The retiring batsman was in for j sixty minutes, getting half that number of runs. Another uneventful run-getting period preceded Wilson dragging a break ball -from Townsend into his wicket. He hatted very correctly, but there was little force in his strokes, hie total including only three boundaries Chapman began with delightful aggres- ) siveness, two fours to off, two square > leg boundaries and a single for a cut coming from the first five balls. Calthorpe woke up and made two magnificent drives past the bowler for » four each, but A. Richardson, who had been brought on again, cleverly caught . and bowled him. He made only IL L but he has a fine free style, and will ; probably get big scores during the tour, r MacLaren and Chapman made a stubborn stand, and at the tea adjournment had raised the score to 225. MacLaren, showing something like his old form, and aided by lucky snicks and two “lives,” assisted Chapman to carry the total to 238, when the latter was brillianti ly caught by the wicketkeeper. Thirteen > runs later, MacLaren was superbly stumped. The innings closed for 294, leaving South i Australia to get 58 to win and 22 minutes to play. South Australia made a great effort, and just hit up the runs. Details: I i ENGLAND.
