BRITISH AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP. P.y Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright London, Nov. 11. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club received 252 entrants for this year’s amateur championship. Regarding the alteration of conditions, only 140 voted ; 52 supported the reduction of the field by means of preliminary stroke rounds followed by 18-ho!e matches; 62 favored the present arrangements; 19 demanded 36-hole matches throughout after the qualifying stage; seveh suggested a preliminary district qualifying , competition.
