DISTRICT NEWS.
RIVERLEA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a very poor attendance at the hail on Thursday night to hear Mr. D. L. A. Astbury ’ give his political address. Mr. Humphries was voted to the chair. Mr. Astbury spoke for over an hour, dealing with tlic rims and objects of tlie Liberal-Labor Party and condemning the Government for all they had done and all they had not done. Our factor}’ started cheese-making on tne Ist inst., 'so we are getting whey instead, of skim milk, with the result that any farmers who have pigs anywhere near ready for the works are getting thcun off their hands as quickly as they can, as it does not pay to have to feed pigs on pollard nowadays. The monthly meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday night, when it was decided to give each child a prize again this year. The breaking-up ceremony will take place in the hall tlie day the school breaks up' The children are learning songs, recitations, etc., and 1 am sure the parents can took forward to a very pleasant afternoon. It is to be hoped that, all who can will make an effort to be present. The school teachers and the committee do a lot of work during the year, and it is very gratifying to them to see the parents turn out In full force once a year. There has been quite an epidemic of colds here lately, due to the very cold and changeable weather we have been experiencing.
