BEGGAR LIVING TN LUXURY. New York is busy talking of the story of the legless beggar of Fifth Avenue, who, seated in a tinv truck mounted on castors, has propelled himself for many months up and down Fifth Avenue, the leading thoroughfare of the city. According to the newspapers, it was found that this man lives with his wife in a private suite in a loading Broadway hotel. Also, that he owna a large motor-car and keeps a chauffeur. He is said to have iust returned from a month in New York State’s lake country. These discoveries are said to have followed the arrest of the beggar’s chauffeur, some hypodermic needles, it is said, having been found in his car. The chauffeur was released. The beg<*ar. who is said to ho known as Mr. Hector "Malone, refused to pay the lawyer’s fee.

The lawyer obtained iudgment against him. and two sheriffs went to Mr. Malone’s hotel and served him with a judgment summons. They recognised the man as the beggar. He was ako recognised hy newspaper reporters who were called by the sheriffs to comnlete identification. They found him smoking a cigar held between fingers adorned with two diamond rings. Tn a comer was a pair of aluminium legs. Mounting these, and in evening dress, the beggar, said the hotel cmpayees, would sallv forth each night with his wife on pleasure hent. He lost his legs in a railway accident six years ago.
