AMERICAN ELECTIONS.
MARKED BY APATHY. SOME IMPORTANT EXCEPTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 7, 7.30 p.m. Washington, Nov. 8. On the eve of the election, the outstanding feature appears to be the apathy shown toward the campaign. Many States have laws by' which voters must register their intention io vote. Three million fewer persons have registered this year than in 1020. There is a remarkable lack of interest in political activities, with the exception of one or two States, despite the fact that the election of governors in thirty-two States should offer plenty of important local issues. The only important exceptions arc Massachusetts, where Senator Lodge is running for re-election and meeting with stiff opposition; New Jersey, where the present governor (Edwards) is running on the Democratic ticket; the Senator on the wet issue at Ohio, where a Harding man (Fess) is running for the Senate against the present Democratic incumbent (Pomerer). Illinois and Ohio are also having a light wine and beer referendum, which is attracting attention.
