ANXIOUS OUTLOOK.
DANGER IN TURKS’ AIMS. PRESTIGE OF BRITAIN. SUBJECTS IN DISTRESS. By Telesraph.—Press Assn.—COpyri'g’st. Received Nov. 7, 8.55 p.m. London, Nov. 7. Mr. Martin Donohoe, the war correspondent. has returned from Constantinople. He predicts in the Daily Chronicle an early debacle at Constantinople. Angora’s national past aims at the complete political regeneration of .the Turkish Empire. The Turk is the same yesterday and to-day as ever, venal, corrupt, and time serving, while treaties and agreements are merely scraps of paper. Britain must answer in the next few days whether she is a beaten nation, incapable or unwilling to defend menaced nationals and the honor and lives of British subjects in Turkey. Perhaps,” adds Mr. Donohoe, ‘‘blood will have to be shed to teach the arrogant Kemalists if they push too far. We ought not to hesitate to jettison entangling alliances with questionable friendships in order, to avoid the bitterness of tasting national dishonor.” The Kemalists may answer the Allied refusal to evacuate Constantinople by proceeding to extremes. The British force at Constantinople and on the other side of the Bosphorus could not stem a vigorous Kemalist offensive, and the only alternative is withdrawal or the surrender of Constantinople without fighting. Mr. Donohoe declares that thousands of British subjects in Turkey are in dire danger and distress, and he asks if they will be abandoned and left to be ruthlessly slaughtered.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

The Dajly Chronicle states the Kemalists have exceeded the force of eight thousand gendarmerie permitted in Thrace by the Mudania agreement to an extent sufficient to form the cadres for a new Turkish army in Europe. The Bosphorus and Chanak neutralities have been freshly violated. The Chronicle points out the Kemalistfi have anticipated to their own advantage the decisions of the Lausanne conference, purposing to go to the conference with fait accompli. _ The Morning PoSt’s Paris correspondent reports that the Kemalists have seized the town of Gallipoli. Aus.-N.Z. , Cable Assn. FRENCH IN THE DARK. Paris, Nov. 6. The Foreign Office has not received confirmation of the Kemalist demand for the evacuation of Constantinople.
