ARMISTICE DAY.

TWO MINUTES’ SILENCE. 'Saturday marks the fourth anniversary of the armistice which concluded hostilities in 1918 and, as in former years, it is proposed to observe two minutes’ silence at 11 a.m. that day. A circular letter from the Prime Minister, enclosing a copy of a cablegram from the Secretary of -State, has been received by the Mayor of New Plymouth (Mr. F. E. Wilson) and it is asked that suitable arrangements Ibe made for New Plymouth in regard to the official observances. The cablegram rea<^s: — “His Majesty, the King, has expressed a wish for the suspension of nominal business during two minutes’ silence at 11 a.m. on Armistice Day, November 11, as last year. His Majesty’s Government propose to hold a ceremony on the same general lines as last year including laying wreaths (see my cablegram of October 25, 1921) except that t'he hymn will be the ‘Old Hundredth.* ” The cablegram of October 25, referred to, read as follows: —“It is proposed in this country there shall be a short military ceremony at the cenotaph which representative detachments of the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, and ex-servicc men’s associations shall take part. Representatives of his Majesty and the Prime Minister will-lay wreaths just before eleven. High Commissioners are being invited to foe present and lay wreathe on behalf of their representative Dominions. After two minutes’ silence commencing at 11 a.m., the hymn T) God our Help in Ages Past’ will be sung accompanied by masped bands. Upon its conclusion Reveille will be sounded by buglers and the ceremony will be completed.”
