Lime is a plant food in itself. Land dressed with lime cracks less *;* * freely, and it helps to break down stiff clods, so that a tilth is more <♦ easily obtained. It neutralises acidity in the soil, sweetening sour lands. *;* By encouraging clover and lucerne it increases the nitrate content of ♦♦♦ X soils. It opens up clay soils, making them less retentive of water. It v T hinds the particles of light or sandy soils together, making them more *t* £ retentive of moisture.
