UNHAPPY IRISH.
MISERY OF LOYALISTS. A DARK PICTURE. TREATY ON TRIAL. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Nov. 3, 5.5 p.m. London, Nov. 2. Lord Carson, in a letter to the Press, says that Mr. Chamberlain at Birmingham spoke the truth when he described the signing of the Irish Treaty as the cause of the Conservative dissension, but Mr. Chamberlain and his colleagues were apparently unaware of the results of the policy over which they were gloating. Lord Carson draws a dark picture of the disordered state of Ireland, but admite that the new Government must give tjie Treaty a fair trial, but the question how long the trial should •ast is one for grave consideration. He concludes with the earnest hope that the people of England will insist upon more sympathetic treatment of loyalists in Ireland, who are at present living ui indescribable misery and destitution. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Association. FURTHER OUTRAGES. London, November 2. Small bodies of armed Irregulars simultaneously raided two income-tax offices in Dublin, held up the staff, sprinkled petrol and set fire to the offices. They mu ;t also give the rank of all Irregulars officers with, out inverted commas. The penalty ie £2O for each offence, and if they persist more drastic measures will be taken.
