Whilst contending, with a terrific storm in the Bay of Biscay an explosion of fire-damp occurred on the French steamer Madali. which was carrying a cargo of coal to Algiers from Cardiff, hurling the hatches into the sea. Four of the crew were seriously injured. The captain ran towards Corunna for medical aid, and two of the crew died in hospital.
