LABOR DEFEAT.

BRITISH LOCAL POLLS. ROUT IN ALL PARTS. REJECTED BY WORKERS. By Telegraph.—Press As«n.—Copyright. Received Nov. 3, 12.5 a.m. London, Nov. 2. Labor appears to have been emasfliingly defeated at the municipal elections in England and Wales, the rout being overwhelming in the great industrial centres. On the majority of new councils Labor retains only a shred of its former power, while on several councils it was swept away entirely. The Labor debacle is also striking many parts of London. For instance, Greenwich, where Labor lost thirteen seats, and Shoreditch, where they lost twenty-two, the Conservatives being the principal gainers in both cases. Labor also lost nine seats in Liverpool, five in Hull, seven in Stoke and eight in West Hartlepool. No Labprite was returned in Middleton, a great cotton centre. — Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
