FIJI SHIPPING COMPANY, By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Suva, Nov. 1. The assets of the Fiji Shipping Company, in liquidation, were auctioned to-day for £BlOO to a local syndicate. NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY. Dunedin, Nov. 1. The National Insurance Company’s report recommends the payment of a’ dividend of Is 3d and a bonus of 9d per share, absorbing £20,000, and carrying forward £30,397. FARMERS’ CO-OP. REPORT. Owing to Labor Day falling on Monday, October 23, we held our Opunake sale on Saturday, October 21, when a good yarding of cattle were offered to a full attendance of buyers. Bidding was good and practically the whole of the entry changed hands at satisfactory prices. Forward cows made up to £3, good 35s to £2 10s, others £1 upwards, 2-year-old heifers £2 10s to £3 ss, 2-year-old medium steers £2 14s, small Jersey cross yearling heifers £2 6s, better grown £3 10s, extra good Jersey heifers close to profit £l2 ss, good mixed breeds £6 15s to £7 15s, ordinary £4 to £6, grade Jersey bulls .£8 to £lO, yearlings to £'s. On Tuesday, at Manaia, there was only a medium entry, prices being on a par with previous rates. Best cjws made from £4 15s to £5 ss, forward do £3 to £4, others- 25s to £2, Jersey yearling heifers £4 8s to £5 7s. The timber offered on account of Mr. W. C. Clements realised from 10s to 30s per 100 ft., the average being somewhere in the vicinity of 19s per 100 s. On the same day we had a good entry at Stratford, both the store and dalrj’ pens being well filled. Bidding was brisk throughout and prices showed an all-round improvement. At Inglewood on Wednesday we had a goqd entry of cattle and a small yarding of sheep. Although bidding was not brisk the majority of the stock yarded found fresh owners nt prices on a par with late rates. Ewes and lambs made 255, hoggets .18s to 235, forward cows to £3, good young store cows £2 to £2 10s, others £1 to £2, 3-year-old steers £3 10s, good yearling steers to £2 ss. Nicely-marked yearling Holstein heifers up to £4 15s, good Jersey yearling do to £5 15s, mixed colored yearlings £3 10s to £4 ss, small 30s to £2 10s, small nice quality Jersey yearlings £3 to £3 15s, best dairy heifers, Jerseys to £9 10s, other breeds to £7, ordinary sorts £4 to £6. On Thursday, at Inglewood, we held our annual bull fair, when about 100 animals came under the hammer. I The sale was practically lifeless, there being little demand for any class of bulls whatever, and sales were only effected at low money, the vendors in most cases, however, were prepared to meet the market, despite the low prices, and in consequence most of the entries changed hands. Tedlgree Jerseys, 2 years and over, up to 15 guineas, yearlings from 5 guineas to 10 guineas, Pedigree Holstelns up to 12% guineas, grade bulls up to 5 guineas. At Auroa on Friday, we held our annual bull fair, together with our usual stock sale, there was a very good entry, practically the whole of the cattle pens being filled. The demand for bulls was particularly good, and wo had no trouble whatever in disposing of the whole entry (with the exception of one or two yearlings) at prices in favor of the vendors. Bidding was also spirited for both store and dairy stock, and taken all round, this is one of the most successful sales we have held at Auroa for some months. Pedigree Jersey bulls, 2 years and over, to 20 guineas, yearlings 18% guineas, 14 guineas and 12 guineas, best grade Jersey bulls 10 to 15 guineas, others 8 to 10 guineas, forward cows and heifers £2 10s to £3 10s, good £2 to £2 7s 6d, Jersey cros>s yearling heifers £4 2s fid, Holstelns to £3, rough yearling heifers to 365, best dairy heifers £8 to £lO, others to £7.
LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited (Hawera branch), report:—• At Palmer Road on the 20th ult., a medium yarding of store cattle came forward, which sold at late rates. There was a fair offering of dairy cattle, the majority of which were keenly sought after. We quote: Good conditioned and forward cows £2 Ils to £3 J9s. store cows 17s Gd to 30s, yearling Jersey bull £3 ss, springing heifers £9 to £l3 10s. At Kakaramea on the 24th ultimo, we had a good yarding, principally of store cattle, the majority selling at late rates. We quote: Fat cows to £5 ss, forward cows £3 2s 6d to £3 15s. store cows £1 to £2 3s, grade Jersey bulls to 13% guineas, others £2 to £5 9s, good quality springing heifers £9 10s to £l4, others to £8 10s, cows £5 to £B, weaner pigs 16s, sows 21s. t At Eltham on the 25th ultimo, the advertised number came forward. Store cattle sold mostly on a par with recent sales. The bulk of the dairy cattle lacked quality consequently these were hard to quit. We quote: Good conditioned cows £2 to £2 12s, stores £1 Is to £1 10s, Jersey cross yearling heifers £2 15s to £3 10s, others 27s 6d to £2 7s, bulls £3 to £4 10s. good conditioned bullocks £5, springing heifer? (medium) to £B, others £2 15s to £5, cows £5 to £6 ss, store pigs (large) 34s 6d to £2 2s, others 21s. At Hawera on the 26th ultimo, we had a largo yarding of cattle, the majority of which were disposed of under . the hammer. Every hoof sol(l in the dairj’ pans and, although good qality. cattle were scarce, the sale was eagerly contested throughout. We quote: Fat cows £5 5s to £5 15s, forward cows £2 9s to £3 10s. stores £1 3s to £1 17s 6d, others at market value, 2-year steers £2 10s to £3, forward bullocks to £4 10s, Jersey bulls £6 to £l2, Holstein bull £fi 10s, Jersey cross yearling heifers (small) £3 3s, Jersey yearling heifers (medium) £5 10s, springing heifers (medium) £8 to £lO. others £4 15s to £7. springing cows (second calvers) £9 to £l3, calved ditto to £ll 10s. others £3 to £6 ss, sows £2 ss, stores (small) 23s to 24s Gd. weaners 7s to 13s 6d. At Wa.verley on the 27th ultimo, we had a large yarding of store rattle and practically ail were disposed of at auction at late values. Wo quote: Forward bullocks £4 10s, fat cow£ to £4 7s Od, 3 and 4-year steers £4 2s, poorer sorts £3 12s, 15-month steers 38s to £2 Is, cows (with calves) 27s to 30s, yearling S.H. heifers £2.
