By Telegraph.—Press Association Christchurch, Last Night. The spell of activity which began some weeks ago shows no sign of slackening off. Oats, which have been in keen demand recently from Australia and Britain, are, if anything. a shade easier with regard to the Australian demand. The fine rains which have fallen there have had something to do with this. It is stated, however, that the business done among local merchants has been sufficient to reduce their stocks to a fairly low state. The demand locally is nothing extraordinary. Business in seeds continues good, mostly on account of orders from overseas, cowgrass and clover being especially good in this connection. This business has had tne effect, of stimulating the local demand. Stocks are understood to be low in the North Island. Should the demand for seed in the Dominion wake up in the autumn there is likely to be difficulty in supplying orders from the stocks on hand of the present season’s seeds. The one line that is excluded from the present activity in the seed business is cocksfoot, which continues to be as slow as ever it was throughout the season. BUTTER AND CHEESE. Messrs. A. H.
