DAIRY PRODUCE FREIGHTS.
CHARGES ON THE RAILWAYS. PLEA FOR REDUCTION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. “The meat producers, through the efforts of the Meat Board, have obtained a substantial reduction in railway freights, while the producers of butter and cheese continue to pay high rates,” said Mr. H. Poland (Ohinemuri) in the House to-day. He suggested that as there was no dairy produce board to battle for concessions the Minister of Agriculture should undertake the. task of obtaining ft reduction in the rates for butter and cheese. The Minister of Railways (the Hon. D. H. Guthrie) said that the question of reduced freights for dairy produce was under consideration by the Department. The Department had expected a conference with a Dairy Produce Board, but in consequence of the postponement of the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill the board was a thing of the future. He would be very pleased to discuss the matter with the Minister of Agriculture.
