PERSONAL.
Mr. W. R. Miller, Taranaki representative for Messrs. Sharland and Co., who has been seriously ill in a private hospital in New Plymouth for some days past, is making a good recovery.
Mr. J. B. Austin, who for the past three years has managed the business of the New Plymouth Friendly Societies’ Dispensary, has resigned his position. It is Mr. Austin’s intention to commence business on his own account as a chemist and druggist in New Plymouth.
The death of Mr George Gudgeon occurred at Inglewood yesterday morning, as a result of complications following an attack of rheumatic fever. The late Mr Gudgeon had been in business in Inglewood for many years, and had always taken a keen interest in any movement promoted for the welfare of the district. He was also well known and highly respected by K. very large circle of friends, having always taken a keen interest in all branches of sport. Two or three years ago he won the Taranaki golf championship, and he also won the New Plymquth Golf Club championship. Ho was a fine all-round cricketer and also a prominent member of the Inglewood Bowling Club. The late Mr. Gudgeon had been a resident of Inglewood for between 20 and 30 years. Of late years he had carried on a business as a dealer in spirting requisites as well as mechanical repairer Of bicycles, motors, etc. His absence will bo felt as that of a genial and at the same time useful fellow citizen. He has died at the early age of 47, leaving a widow and family of seven sons and one daughter, with whom heartfelt sympathy will be felt.
