On the summit of precipitous cliffs in West Mayo a little rebel republic, boasting 600 soldiers, has been established. It is known as General Kilroy’s Western Republic. The general recently drove out the Free Staters from Newport, the capital of the republic, and since has been elected President. Subjugation will be lengthy and difficult. The only roads wind round the bases of cliffs, where outposts and sentries are posted. ThA rebels are well armed and equipped. CONTROL OF RAILWAYS. London, Oct. 27. The majority report of the commission appointed by the Provisional Government recommends that the State acquire the Irish railways, and appoint an independent board of management.
