DAIRY POOL.
DROPPED FOR THE PRESENT. TIME FOR CONSIDERATION. ACTION NEXT SESSION. (By TVire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Oct. 28.
The postponement of the Dairy Poo! Bill until next session was announced by the Prime Minister in the House today; Cabinet had met that morning to consider what should be done, said Mr. Massey, and had decided that the Bill should not proceed this year.
“I am bound to say that the great majority, both in the House and in the country, are strongly in favour of the Bill,” he added, “but there is opposition io the Bill. I know that several members of the House had sufficient confidence in the Government to vote for the Bill, although, there was much in it that they did not approve of. The Government does not intend to put the Bill through this session. “It will be much better to give the people on both sides an opportunity to consider the proposals during the recess and endeavor to arrive at a solution of the difficulty. We can pronfise that the Bill will be reintroduced as soon as possible after the beginning of next session, and I hope and believe we shall be able to put something into law that will be for the benefit of the dairy farmers.” Earlier in the afternoon Mr. S. G. Smith (Taranaki) had given notice of a series of amendments to be ffioved when the Bill was in the committee stage. “I quite understand,” remarked the Prime Minister, who evidently believed that the amendments were intended to obstruct the passage of the Bill.
