DISTRICT NEWS.
KORITO. (From Our Own Correscondent). On Thursday evening last a farewell dance was held in Korito School, the gathering being arranged by the Kent Road and Korito people to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs Herbert. who are leaving the district. Mr Herbert, or “Bart,” ns he is more familiarly known, has for some time past held the position of creamery manager and postmaster at Korito, and by his kindly manner and attention to hl’, duties earned the respect, of all who came in contact with him.
The decision of the Mangorei Dairy Company tn close Mangorei Road, Fgimont Village, and Korito creameries was the cause of Mr Herbert having to look for fresh fields. The school had been tastefully decorated by our tencher (Miss Miles) and the children, th? effect obtained being very pleasing, and brought forth nany congratulatory remarks from those present. There was n representative attendance of Kent and Korito Roads, and also some visitors from Albert Road. There was rather a shortage of gents on the floor, but everything went along smoothly.
Just before supper Mr Perot’ Olson, in a happy little speech, asked Mr Herbert to accept a small token of esteem from his friends at Korito, who felt the.v could net let him depart without some little present to remember the gno'l old dayrf spent in Korito. Ho then asked Mr Herbert to accept, on behalf of Mrs Herbert and himself, a handsome eiderdown quilt, ho ung that when he was snuggled down underit at Waihi he would not forget his old Korito friends. Mr Herbert, in a few words, thanked them for their nice present, saying it was not his wish to leave Korito, which he looked upon as hopte, having been horn and brought ud around the district. He was not gong far away, and he extended a hearty welcome to one and all if they happened along his way After a nice supper, provided by the ladies, dancing was resumed till about midnight, wnen "Auld Lang Syne” brought a very pleasant evening to a close. The music was supplied by Mr Orchard (violin) and Miss Orchard (piano), and Mr M. Orchard successfully carried nut the duties of M.C. Mr S. Richards, who has been in charge of the creamery at Mangorel Road, comes to live in the creamery house vacated by Mr Herbert and will act as postmaster. Mr Richards will have chadge of one of the Mangorel Dairy Company’s lorries, which will now be garaged at Korito, and do the cream collecting on Korito. Kent, and Mangorei Roads.
Carpentering is now the order of the clay, and most of the milk suppliers to the creamery are now busy trying their hand at building separator rooms and getting their separator set up ready to start, cream supply on me first of next month.
Tlic grass is coming away fine now. and the cows are res ponding accordingly. If prices hold anything at all decent all are looking forward to some good fat milk cheques, j The road has been alive with separator
agents this last week or so. As soon as it. became known the creamery was going to close, they came in swarms, each full of the great cream extracting qualities of his own particular machine.
