THE WINTER CLUB. The last of the series of Winter Club dances was held on Tuesday, and the members were invited to appear in powder and patches and fancy dress. There was a splendid attendance and the costumes worn were weird, wonderful and fantastic. The hall was decorated with bamboo, balloons and paper streamers and the supper tables were done in gerberas, red tulips, red Japanese plum and maple. After supper, Mr. .C. Denny-Brown, on behalf of the members, presented Miss Gladys George (the pianist) with a beautifully fitted handbag, as Miss George’s band had helped more than a little to make the dances the success they were. Mr. Denny-Brown also mentioned the excellent work done by the custodian and his wife, which the members felt could not bp left unrecognised, and asked Mr. and Mrs. Brabyn to accept a presen; of a tea 'set. Mr.« Robertshaw then thanked the committee, on behalf of the members, for the jolly dances which had been held during the past months. \

The carnival dance was the feature of the evening, and balloons, trumpets, squeakers and confetti reigned supreme for an hour or so. The dance broke up in the early hours of the morning, leaving the members with a pleased feeling of an evening most enjoyably spent and a fitting ending to the club’s efforts during the winter. WEDDING. NORTHCOTT—CHATTERTON. A very pretty wedding was celebrated on Thursday, September 21. at Whiteley Memorial Church, when Evelyn Hilda Chatterton, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. AV. Chatterton, of Vogeltown. was married to James Nichollas Xorthcott, of Waitara. The Rev. J. Xixon officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked charming in a white crepe de chine dress with pearl trimming, and wore the orthodox veil and orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of spring flowers with lemon streamers. She also wore a gold pendant and chain, the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. J. Telfar acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Hygenie Tearooms, where the customary toasts were honored. The happy couple left by ear en route for Wellington for the honeymoon.
