Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Health, ie visiting New Plymouth.

Mr. R. B. Miller, representing the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, is visiting New Plymouth. The Board of Governors of the Wairarapa High School has appointed as headmaster of the school Dr. George Uttley, at present principal of Scots College, Wellington. A London cable says Sir James Allen, on behalf of the staff of the New Zealand office, presented a canteen of cutlery to Mr. Cameron, immigration officer, who is retiring after twenty-five years’ service.

His many friends will learn with regret’ that Mr. Geo. Gudgeon, of Inglewood, who is well known in golf and cricket circles, is at present ■seriously indisposed, his condition causing some anxiety (writes our Inglewood correspondent). Mr. Selwyn Upton, at one time lawn tennis champion of the Auckland Province and a Rugby representative of the province, died on Tuesday last. He was married to l a daughter of Dr. Leys, lately editor of the Auckland Star, and leaves three children. In addition to the list of successful candidates at the recent Victoria College terms examination published in Thursday’s issue, Mr. C. G. White, New Plymouth, kept terms in Property 1, Procedure and Torts, gaining a third-class .pass in each subject, and Mr. R. Greiner kept terms in conflict of Law, gaining a third-class pass, and Property 11., a second-class.
