TARATA HALL—B p.m., Wednesday, November 1. MAHOE HALL—B p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2. (JEORGE WILL ADDRESS THE ELECTORS At CARRINGTON ROAD SCHOOL, MONDAY NIGHT (OCTOBER 30), At Eight o’Clock. THE ELECTORS. WAITOMO ELECTORATE. JN view of the early approach of the Parliamentary Elections, much thought was recently given to the selection of a suitable candidate to represent the Reform Party in this electorate. It has been judged advisable to acquaint you with the qualifications of the gentleman selected and of the reasons which prompted the choice. It was generally felt by the representatives of the party, who assembled at the meeting charged with the selection of a candidate, that the final choice should fall upon the gentleman who by training, experience and interest should be most in sympathy and accord with the majority of the electors. From this standpoint it will at once be evident that the selected gentleman must of necessity be one engaged in farming pursuits, for the well-being of the electors as a whole, whether they be resident in town or country, and who is closely bound up with the prosperity of the farming community. After mature and anxious consideration, Mr. J. C. Rolleston was selected. Mr. Rolleston has much to commend him. Some twelve years ago he came into' this district as a young man and took up virgin farming land at the back of Mangapeehi. Up to the outbreak of war he resided upon and personally developed his property. He is therefore acquainted by personal experience with all the hardships and difficulties of the pioneer farmer. Even to-day he has no road to his property, and is compelled to pack his supplies over five miles of bush track. It is clear that no one can have a more accurate idea than he of the needs and necessity of the man on the land. No one could be more in sympathy with the farmer than a man who has himself suffered all the disadvantages of backblock farming. It was felt, too, that his years of personal toil in the development of his property would of necessity put him in close sympathy with the man who, like himself, had to sustain himself by his own personal efforts. As a private in the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force, Mr. Rolleston is naturally in the deepest sympathy with the Returned Soldier, and more particularly with those who, like himself, have returned scarred and wounded in the country’s cause. To these many qualifications and wide sympathy, Mr. Rolleston adds virility and enthusiasm, and it is felt that the electorate has every reason to congratulate itself upon securing the offer of the services of a man so well esteemed, so active, earnest, so enthusiastic, and so deeply in sympathy with the needs of the district and its people. The feeling is general that in Mr. Rolleston a man has been secured who, if elected, will multiply into his efforts for the district a profound knowledge of its wants and an enthusiastic and progressive ideal of service. In order to secure the return of Mr. Rolleston, your active support and personal assistance is earnestly requested. REFORM LEAGUE, TE KUITI BRANCH. W. Lorrigan, President.
