WESTERN PARK.

MEETING OF THE BOARD. The Western Park Board met on Wednesday. Messrs. F. J. Hill (chairman), A. L. Humphries, A. C. Lawrey, F. Robertson, E. Hine, R. J. Deare, H. S. Brookman, W. B. Davies, R. O. Ellis, F. L. Hartnell and L. 11. Honeyfield (secretary). An apology was received from Mr. Barthorp. The chairman reported that the subcommittee appointed at the last meeting to meet the Western Park Cricket Club had thought it advisable to arrange with the North Taranaki Cricket Association instead of an individual club and that satisfactory arrangements had betn raade with the association for the use of the sports ground The association had asked that a donation box be provided so that they could take up a collection at matches held on the ground in aid of the board’s funds.—-The action of the subcommittee was approved. The chairman also reported that the Borough Council had declined to finish the work on the sports ground, which had been left in an incomplete state When the unemployment funds were exhausted. They were also sending a few loads of black soil to use on the ground when the bank of clay was removed.

It was decided to have the hedges round the park cut and the place cleaned up generally. The chairman was authorised to employ the necessary labor. Considerable discussion took place on the question of raising money to finish the boulder wall, provide gates, and other necessary improvements, various schemes being brought forward. Eventually one suggested by Mr. Brookman was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs. Ellis, Brookman, Robertson. Deare and Hill, with power to act, Mr. Brookman to act as convener. An application for the use of the sports ground for next season was received from the Rugby League, and it was decided to advise them that their application would be considered with others, when the question of allotting the ground for the aeiwon was under consideration. On the motion of Mr. Brookman it was decided, to write to the Regimental Band asking them whether they could give a moonlight concert at Westown Park in aid of the park funds. Honorary members’ donations of 10s 6d were received from the following:— Messrs. T. N. Blackball, H. E. Hill, W. Bruce, A. W. Morey, K. Jans, E. B. Kyngdon, T. K. Skinner, E. Lash, also £1 Is from Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Reid and £1 Is from Dr. Home, and £2 2s from the Taranaki Herald, towards the boulder wall.
