OVER-SUPPLY OF BUTTER.

NEW MARKETS WANTED. The prospects for the current dairying season are that there will be not on!j' a substantial increase in the output in New Zealand, but also an increase in the producing States of the Commonwealth. Argentine also is developing its dairying industry in a remarkable manner, and the conditions for the present season were reported to be favourable, and a large increase in production was anticipated. If London is to be the exclusive market, or even the principal market, for the expanding output, then prices are bound to be on a lower basis, but the conditions ruling in the Northern Hemisphere are such as to indicate that other markets would be available. Some time ago the American Consulate in Wellington received a communication from a produce merchant in San Francisco expressing a desire to be put into communication with New Zealand butter merchants, as the American firm wished to buy butter. The American output of butter and cheese was short, in the past season, and supplies had to be obtained from Canada. Both the United States and Canada should be available as markets for New Zealand butter. The Australian producers are said i o b • giving this matter attention, and are hoping to build up a trade with the United States.—Dominion.
