ALLEGED THEFT.

EX-UNION SECRETARY CHARGED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. J. G. Bruce, formerly secretary of the Wellington Waterside Workers’ Union, was arrested by Senior-Detective Lewis and Detective Tricklebank, to-day, in connection with the alleged theft of union funds. The amount involved in the charge is about £B5O. Accused was brought before the court, and the police applied for a remand. Mr. H. F. O’Leary, for accused, applied for bail. He said the charge had been hanging over accused’s head for some time, but Bruce had made no attempt to leave the Dominion.

Bail was granted accused in £2OO and two securities of £lOO each.
